1 Dream Getaway's May 2008 Birthday Party

PAGE 1, THE LIGHTHOUSE

In Costa Rica, streets do not have names and houses don't have numbers. As the house we rented for the May 2007 birthday party was unavailable (lucky, because they had no water for a week) I selected the Lighthouse---first from photos and then went there several times. It is different, and we like to be different.  HOWEVER, I was going to the wrong house and did not realize it until the morning of the party, when I went for the keys before heading to the airport. The keys didn't fit, and I finally realized I had been visiting the wrong house. The Lighthouse is different and unique, but low-range 4WD was required to get to it (and into the driveway). We moved in to find the AC broken, and the wall of glass sliding doors did not open. There are blinds to close when the sun came in, but they did not work either. The stairway is also unique---and without handrails. There is a waterfall under the stairs, but that did not work either.  So in frustration, we chose a different house.  These are the photos of our first day at the May Birthday Party at the Lighthouse.....

One of the girls accidentally stepped on a white button on the floor in a corner of the pool deck, and that turned out to operate the pool filter.  But the house needs to come with instructions. A crew was sent to open the doors and fix the blinds, but they couldn't.

As you can see, we did not suffer much to hang out before the move...

We ate well, but no one wanted to drink too much and use the stairs.

But the Lighthouse did give us something to talk about and share photos for years to come. I rented a 14-passenger van for us to go to a friend's home in Arenal and then horseback riding on another volcano (photos to come), but when I tried to back it into the Lighthouse driveway the wheels just spun as the van proceeded down the hill. We managed to get the van out at the bottom of the hill after getting a clicker to pass through the home at the bottom---and we never returned to the Lighthouse. Even at the bottom of the hill, I could not back the van up to go out the gate without the guys standing on the rear bumper....and this was when everything was dry! At the end of the party, we got our first rain of 2008, and as I drove home all I could think of was how all those millionaires managed to get home on the wet 45 degree brick roads in that development.

So we finally got out of Dodge after watching a beautiful sunset.

NOW we are going to begin soliciting for the May 2009 Birthday Party.  As a matter of fact (as two of our guests this year were born in July) the first person to send us his deposit for the May 2009 party sets the date, and it does not have to be in May.
